Mr Karl Mason

Personal profile

I trained as a social worker at Trinity College Dublin, graduating in 2002.  After graduation, I worked for 5 years in Dublin as a social worker in a statutory child protection and welfare service in both duty and long-term teams before moving to London.  In London I began working in a pre-birth, hospital-based, child safeguarding team in a local authority for two years.  I later worked as a hospital social worker in an A&E department in London for several years, with a focus on hospital discharge, adult social care and safeguarding adults and later managed a social work team and a multi-disciplinary homelessness team in a hospital setting.  I am qualified as a Best Interests Assessor and Practice Educator.

I teach on the MSc Social Work, the PG Dip (Step Up) and the MSc Advanced Practice.  I am a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

My research and teaching interests include adult social care policy and practice, particularly in relation to people who are homeless, self-neglect and hospital discharge.  I am a PhD student researching social work responses to homeless adults with care and support needs.
