Abstract

Value stream mapping (VSM) and assembly line balancing heuristics are widely used in manufacturing and operations management. Value stream mapping aims to reduce wastage in the production process, while assembly line balancing optimizes task and resource distribution. Assembly line balancing heuristics employ algorithms like largest candidate rule, ranked positional weight rule, and Kilbridge and Wester technique to enhance output, cut costs, and improve efficiency. Both techniques complement each other, with assembly line balancing heuristics focusing on the assembly line's flow and value stream mapping considering the entire manufacturing process, leading to better overall operations. The study aims to provide a review of these techniques within manufacturing firms to survice in changing market contexts.
