Prof Satya R Shah (SRS) is a Professor of Engineering Management, and Director of Postgraduate and Distance Learning Education, at Royal Holloway College, University of London. A multi-disciplinary background of Engineering and Management, with Services and Manufacturing industries, Satya has followed his continuous learning and passion in the areas, and further within International Education and Programme Portfolio development. The current role focusses on driving excellence for educational programmes across the School of Engineering, Physical, and Mathematical Sciences, and wider involvement towards the development of global partnerships and collaborative development by working across the college’s international and postgraduate development teams.
Satya has 20+ years of experience on all aspects of educational governance, including operational, strategic, quality, recruitment, student experience, teaching & learning and staff development and management. His work had been instrumental towards raising the student attrition and retention measures, thus improving overall student performance measures and the school’s conversion ratio from 62% to 92%. Similarly, through his philosophy of “students as partners”, led the success of the improvement of National Students Survey (NSS) from 78% to 97.67% over a period of three years.
Alongside his educational pedagogy and teaching, Satya has also been research active, with five PhD completions, and 110+ research outputs in peer-reviewed journals and IEEE international conferences.

Satya considers himself an Applied Research Academic (ARA) where he brings his teaching, research practices and theories to life through on and off classroom. Using Management and Business practices, he has supervised more than 120+ projects and theses. He is also a successful Programme Portfolio Specialist and through innovative use of programme and course mapping practices, blended teaching, and learning, and through skills and behavioural learning, he has successful leadership of design, re-design, develop & delivery of 24+ programme portfolio (UG/PG/DL). This includes - Global & Specialist MBA's; Manufacturing; Engineering Management; Logistics and Supply Chain Management; Global Healthcare Management; and 6+ Degree and Masters Apprenticeship programmes (Digital Skills; Data Analyst; Engineering, Product Design; CMDA; Logistics) during 2012-22.
More recently (Nov 21-Sep 22), Satya has led the design, development and management of the UoLW and RHUL Distance Learning Education portfolio for Online Master's Programmes.
Passionate about recruitment and attainment through involvement in International Development and TNE activities, Satya has led multiple recruitment projects in India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal, Kuwait, Oman, Greece, Romania, Turkey, with a combined market coverage and recruitment numbers of 2000+ students on various university wide programmes. Satya successfully have led the development of TNE Partnership over many years in India, Greece, Sri Lanka, UAE, and MEA regions.
Externally, Satya has been invited as an External Examiner for 30+ portfolio review, institutional, and collaborative events within UK, Finland, Turkey, Germany, UAE, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Malaysia and India for UG/PGT/PGR programmes. Some of the external UK institutions he has collaborated and supported are University College London, University of Essex, University of Derby, Northampton University, University of Manchester, University of Leeds, Glasgow Caledonian University, Arden University, BPP University, Middlesex University, Edinburgh Napier University, University of East London and more.
As a passionate advocate of education, Satya dedicates his free time as Founding Director of a charitable initiative engaging in supporting communities for education/skills-based projects, mainly promotion of “education for girls” in rural villages in Gujarat, India.
