Personal profile

I joined the Department in October 2012 as a lecturer in Broadcast Media after I obtained a Ph.D.in Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Westminster. Before I moved to England, I had lectured at Beijing’s Communication University of China between 2002 and 2004.

My research interests lie primarily in the area of global media studies. I am particularly interested in exploring the cultural and economic implications of transnational media flows. I convene the course Structures of Broadcasting on MA Media Management and MA International Television Industries. Apart from teaching at the postgraduate level, I also contribute lectures and project supervision to undergraduate courses including Film, Television and Digital Histories and Media Research Project. I supervise PhD students in the area of global media and communication studies with a particular focus on Chinese media in the global context. I am currently serving as the Course Director of MA Media Management hosted here by the Media Arts Department.

I have been taking part in various professional and consultancy activities in addition to my commitment to Royal Holloway. They include:  

  • Reviewing submissions for Global Media and China, Asian Journal of Communication, International Journal of Digital Television, Celebrity Studies
  • Offering professional Mandarin-English interpreting services for Beijing TV and CCTV at the the Children’s Media Conference (CMC) at Sheffield (2012), BBC Academy (2017), Locksmith Animation (2017)  
  • Serving as special UK reporter/producer for: London 2012 Olympics Games TV Coverage, Fujian Satellite TV (China); The Age of Internet, documentary series, China Central Television (2014)
