Site seeing: Pompeii in 19th and early 20th-century lantern slides

This is a joint project with the archivists at the Institute of Archaeology, University of Oxford. We are exploring the creation of photographic views of Pompeii in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The photographic archive includes photographs by academics, such as JNL Myres and Beatrice Blackwood, as well as lecture sets produced by commercial photographers, including York & Son and Wrench & Son. Our project is investigating the networks of shared knowledge about Pompeii that were created at this time between academics and commercial photographers.
