Abstract

As a fundamental theoretical breakthrough of entrepreneurship research, entrepreneurial bricolage does not only enlighten how all kinds of enterprises overcome resource constraints and implement innovation, but also serve as an integrating theory to combine two conflicting central propositions about the emergence of opportunities: discovered or created. However, theorizing on bricolage is still in its infancy and fragmented in various topics and mixed conclusions. Thus, we search and summarize 191 literature, offering a literature review that gives a clearer understanding of antecedents and outcomes of entrepreneurial bricolage and research contexts, then set a research agenda and priorities for future studies: ⑴ clarify the definition and boundary of resources at hand; ⑵ extend the research contexts of bricolage; ⑶ examine the effect of network, institution and prior experience on bricolage; ⑷ build contingency models of entrepreneurial bricolage-performance relationship instead of examining causality. The conclusion has great implications on theorizing on entrepreneurial bricolage.
