Abstract

The essay begins with an account of where global political and economic interests manifest themselves in Conrad's Almayer's Folly. It then explores the representation of illicit trades (and the trading world more generally) across the range of Conrad's Malay and Asian fiction. it then explores Conrad's 'global consciousness' as manifested in Nostromo with its exploration of international capitalism.
