Abstract

This is a review essay of Michael D. Snediker's volume of poems, The New York Editions. it discusses the relation between the poems and Henry James's New York Edition, assessing the measure of intimacy between the two. It notes certain recurring motifs: the body, a self-conscious concern for form, the making of visual art. It presents the poems' engagement with paintings by John Singer Sargent, Francis Bacon and Mark Rothko; it explores the poems' use of citation and their relation to queer theory.
