Abstract
Most studies of innovation in goods and services have been focused on industrialized countries rather than Sub-Saharan Africa, which leaves a limitation when examining ways to enhance innovation in this context. In the last few years there has been a spread of African innovation hubs focused on technology, specifically Information and Communication Technology (ICT). This research focuses on the knowledge exchange and collaborative processes within a hub located in Zambia. In this hub, technologists, web developers and programmers find significant barriers in their skills and to innovate. The methodological approach presents Actor Network Theory as a framework for understanding one specific case study of an invention created at the hub. The research showed that young technologists and programmers enhance their creativity when they work together. The hub constitutes an effective platform for collaboration and is still in the process of becoming an effective channel for diffusion and adoption of their innovations. Based on these results, this research argues that this hub would have more effective diffusion and adoption of their innovations if they strengthen their relations with potential funders and partners. Future research on ICT hubs should continue to identify and elaborate on different aspects that enhance innovation.
