Abstract

This article explores the enduring fascination of Sophie Scholl, Germany's most iconic female resistance fighter. It compares Marc Rothemund's 'post-memory film' Sophie Scholl - Die letzten Tage (2005) with two earlier biopics, Die weiße Rose (1982) and Fünf letzte Tage (1982) and examines the growing significance of 'the good German woman' in the context of discourses on German suffering and victimhood.
