Abstract

This article treats the use of financial rewards for volunteer public prosecutors in the classical and Hellenistic Greek world. It includes the first comprehensive survey of the epigraphical evidence, which permits a comparison between the enforcement of criminal legislation at Athens and the administration of justice in a wide range of other Greek communities.
