Abstract

Like the country as a whole, prisons in England and Wales endured long periods of lockdown during the Covid-19 pandemic. To many people's surprise however, they appear to have performed better than expected. This paper examined why this may have been so - and the positve and negative lessons this created for the management of prisons as they emerge from the pandemic.
