Abstract

This chapter explores Paris's relationship with other cities, particularly, New York, in fashion's world order of cities. It also discusses the presence of 'Paris' in other cities as signifier of taste and distinction, through connections and flows of fashions and people, through mimesis of Parisian fashions, shops and streetscape, and through rhetorics of difference. The fashion industry in Melbourne with the 'Paris End' of Collins Street is used as a surprising example of this relationship.
