Orchestra and Chorus at the Comédie-Italienne (Opéra-Comique) 1755-1799

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapter

Abstract

This is wholly devoted to presenting the results of archival studies in Paris, using the manuscript 'Registres' of the theatre in the Bibliothèque de l'Opéra. Successive tables show the precise constitution of the orchestra year-on-year, plus information on the chorus as it grew annually. The sources are described in some detail, because they reveal extra information about more unusual instruments, and even about conducting practices.
