Abstract

We investigated the ability of surface- and cave-dwelling P. mexicana females to localize conspecific males in light and darkness. Females of both populations showed a predilection for the male in both experiments. Non-visual association behaviour in darkness in the surface form can be viewed as a pre-adaptation to cave life in this species.
