Abstract
Lean manufacturing has been trumpeted as a revolutionary re-definition of production methods. But there are many aspects of lean production which have not been satisfactorily described or explained. By examining four of the most useful recent texts, this article sets out the need for further understanding of the interaction of suppliers in the just-in-time production model, the lack of detail present in distinguishing between the approaches of the different lean manufacturers and the analysis of alternative strategies and their suitability to the markets in which manufacturers operate. %Z article %U http://www.informaworld.com/smpp/content~content=a739210306~db=all~order=page
