Geography, Art, Research: Artistic Research in the GeoHumanities

This volume offers the first critical account of artistic research in the GeoHumanities. In the midst of a ‘creative return’ within geography that finds great value in creative research methods, and a ‘research turn’ within the arts, that denotes understandings of art as a form of knowledge making, even answering specific research questions (in this case GeoHumanities questions) a series of issues emerge around the critical perspectives proper to artistic research in the GeoHumanities. Though seven site-based ethnographies (produced over a decade of research and practice) – the field, the studio, the lab, the residency, the supervision, the exhibition and the page – and an attention to the mobilities, immobilities, connections and disconnections that cross-cut these sites, this volume suggests that the perspectives offered by the GeoHumanities can offer a much called for analytic lense through which to understand how artistic research makes knowledge and shapes worlds.
