Abstract

The maritime areas of the Arctic and Antarctic are attracting ever more attention
from communities, states, and interests within and beyond their respective
circumpolar regions. The reasons for such an increase in public and political
engagement are varied and intersect with local, regional, and global agendas
pertaining to indigenous politics, climate change, resource exploitation, shipping,
environmental conservation, and maritime security
