Abstract

Ester Boserup was an innovative multidisciplinary scholar who researched on human-environment relationships through an insightful, observational and analytical lens which was not bound by disciplinary tenets. Her research on population and agricultural growth, women’s role in development and dimensions of sustainability have been formalized and tested many times through many decades and remain significant for theory and practice even today. She was a classical economist who was interested in the development process and on the distribution of wealth and power i.e. poverty among people, genders and society.
