Abstract

Dorothy develops a poetics informed by the motions of water on both a molecular and global scale, utilising osmosis, hydraulic cycles and the meander of rivers as process. I also looked toward the philosophy of Astrida Neimanis, who proposes that human bodies, as 60% water, are water bodies. Through an exploration of her writings, I considered the poet as tributary to the Thames.

The collection responds to the lack of documentation (and therefore gap in history) regarding the female construction of Waterloo Bridge. Through the work I propose practice based research - in particular, a poetics of water - as an alternate mode of exploring the possibilities of that gap.
