Abstract

The essays in the book explore Conrad's unusually developed consciousness of language, which was developed through his living in and between a range of languages. It considers his use of technical languages in his fiction; his use of specific foreign languages and their textual appearances in his fiction; and the philosophical engagements and implications of his language use.
