Abstract

This is a review of Rob Lemkin's film, 'Africa Apocalypse', which follows the poet and activist, Femi Nylander, on a journey through Niger. The film is constructed as a response to Marlow's experiences in the Congo in 'Heart of Darkness', which provides an explicit intertext. It follows in the footsteps of another Kurtz-like figure, Captain Paul Voulet, and exposes the massacres he perpetrated and their continuing traumatic impact.
