Abstract

The article explores Joseph Conrad's 'passion for maps'. It begins with 'Heart of Darkness' and Conrad's essay 'Geography and Some Explorers', where he expresses this passion. It considers Conrad's professional experience of mapping as a ship's officer. It discusses 'The End of the Tether' and Conrad's ,Malay Fiction in relation to cartography and the partiality and provisionality of maps.
