Description

Researcher Development Initiative funding for advancing visual methodologies in business and management in conjunction with inVISIO: International Network of Visual Studies in Organisations (group project with colleagues from Essex, Bath, Exeter, Sheffield and Surrey). This will develop an online training resource in visual methods for business and management researchers. It will include multi-media case studies of current practice and materials for teachers of business research methods and culminate in a two-day conference in 2012.

The ESRC-funded International Network for Visual Studies in Organizations (inVisio) brings together researchers, practitioners and artists exploring the visual dimensions of business, management and organizational life.

The inVisio network (that now has some 200 members) is led by Professor Sam Warren at the University of Essex in conjunction with Professor Jane Davison at Royal Holloway and academics at four other leading UK and US institutions. Network members have been involved in a number of activities, including the organisation of conferences and presentations on the theme of the visual, for example:

SCOS on Vision in Lille, 2010;
Software tools for visual analysis, University of Surrey, 2010;
British Academy of Management presentation on the challenges of the visual, Sheffield, 2010;
Academy of Management workshop on film, Montreal, 2010;

and the editing of special journal issues on the visual,
Accounting, Auditing & Accountability Journal, Visual perspectives on accounting & accountability, 2009 [top AAAJ downloaded issue for 2009],
Qualitative Research in Organizations and Management, Exploring the visual in organizations and management, 2012.
