After running a workshop session on reclaiming success at the RGS-IBG Annual Conference 2019 we wanted to open-up the discussion to the wider geography community in an effort to collectively rethink “success”. We want to challenge the norms of the neoliberal academy that narrow the definitions of success to a few solitary practices (publishing, REF, “impact”) and instead redefine success to include the small, everyday, and mundane, working towards a more positive space for academics.

We want this project to offer both a platform for discussion and a resource for the higher eduction community (and beyond) to collectively re-claim success. This consists of a series of blog posts from within the academic community that explore what success means to them. We’re open to your version of success so if you want to write paragraphs and paragraphs or give us a two word answer, all contributions will be welcomed.

Layman's description

We encourage academics at every level to not take their successes for granted, and aim to broaden the idea of what success is.
