Civil-Military Relations in the Creation of the Modern German State, 1871-1971

This project explores the role the military played in the development of the Germany state in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. The central focus is on the conditions that saw the transformation of Germany from one of the most martial states in the international system to one of the most pacific ones.
