Xiaolian Zhang (Stefan) was born in China, studied music theory, singing, piano, and Chinese instruments like Guzheng, Erhu and Guqin starting from young age. He had his BA at the University of Liverpool studied composition and performance. In MRes degree (Distinction) he focused on film music scoring and technology.


He is currently a PhD candidate at Royal Holloway University of London studying Music Composition supervised by Mr Brian Lock and Dr Shzr Ee Tan, exploring the fusion of Chinese and Western instrumental music, and the contemporary film scoring aiming to break the boundary between the music world of Western and Chinese.
