William is a postgraduate research student at Royal Holloway, University of London under the supervision of Prof. J. P. E. Harper-Scott. He holds an MSt in Musicology from Merton College, University of Oxford and a BMus from Stellenbosch University. His research is concerned with music in post-apartheid South Africa with a focus on intersections between aesthetics, geography, and postcolonial studies. He is the recipient of numerous merit award scholarships from Stellenbosch University and the South African Music Rights Organisation, the 'Konservatorium Stipendium' award from SU's department of music, a Clarendon scholarship and a Greendale scholarship issued by Merton College. He is also the recipient of an Oppenheimer Memorial Trust scholarship. William has edited conference proceedings on urban cultures with Press, published in ArtSouthAfrica, Muziki and the NewMusicSA Bulletin, and presented papers in South Africa, Portugal, Brazil, and the United States. Beyond his doctoral work, William is collaborating with Dr Carina Venter on a forthcoming chapter on in an edited volume on Jacques Rancière and music published by Edinburgh University Press.
