William is a doctoral student at Royal Holloway, University of London under the supervision of Prof. J. P. E. Harper-Scott. He holds an MSt in Musicology from Merton College, University of Oxford and a BMus from Stellenbosch University. His research is concerned with modernity and music in post-apartheid South Africa. He is the recipient of numerous awarda including a Clarendon scholarship and a Greendale scholarship issued by Merton College. He is also the recipient of an Oppenheimer Memorial Trust scholarship. William has published in leading journals such as Twentieth-Century Music, Tempo, SAMUS, ArtSouthAfrica, Muziki and the NewMusicSA Bulletin, and presented papers in South Africa, Portugal, Brazil, the UK, Ireland, Germany, and the United States.
