Personal profile

Personal profile

My main research interest is to understand under what circumstances ICTs can be productively used in processes that build the agency, intent and capacity of individuals and collectives engaged in development and social justice.

My field research involved using participatory video to create spaces for women in Zambia to engage critically with  issues constraining development. I am drawing on Friere's critical pedagogy, critical technology theory and critical ethnography.

Other work

On completing my PhD I took up the post of Research Fellow in the Gender Tech Lab of the United Nations University, Institute on Computing and Soceity (UNU-CS). My first research project examined the use of mobile phones by Filipina Domestic Workers in Macau, Hong Kong and the Philippines.
