Personal profile

I am a composer, sound designer and performance-maker working primarily in an interdisciplinary context. This has involved music for television, film and radio and over 80 scores for the stage including award-winning theatre and dance productions performed in 20 countries. Regular collaborators include theatre-makers Bryony Kimmings and Sharon Smith and the choreographer Keren Levi and I am musical director for the Ivgi&Greben Dance Company in Holland.

Projects include the musical A Pacifist’s Guide to the War on Cancer written with Bryony Kimmings and Brian Lobel which opened at the National Theatre for seven weeks before touring internationally; Social Skin, with The National Dance Company of Korea; and Beat with Prague Chamber Ballet.

My music has featured on BBC Radio 1, BBC Radio 2, BBC Radio 3, BBC Radio 4, BBC 6Music, BBC 1Xtra, Channel 4, Sky Arts, Sky Sports, LBC, Virgin, Absolute, BBC 1 and BBC 2.

Research interests

Music and theatre, media composition, collaboration, vocal technologies, language, experiential heritage and museum audio.

PhD students work on film and media composition, interdisciplinary collaboration, sound art and contemporary electronica.

Teaching

I teach studio-based and digital composition, incorporating film and commercial music, recording, sound-design and production. I also teach a module on the creative aspects of making musical theatre.
