Dr Ruth Kennedy

Personal profile

Ruth Kennedy studied for her first degree, BA (Hons) in English Language and Literature with subsidiary Philosophy at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne (class of 68) after which she obtained a Postgraduate Certificate of Education and taught for many years at several schools in the south of England. As a mature student, she was awarded an MA in Medieval Studies from the University of Bristol where, in 1991, she completed a doctoral thesis editing Middle English texts. She first came into the Department as the Caroline Spurgeon Research Fellow when she taught for the academic year 1990-91. In 1992 she joined the Department full-time.

Research interests

Her main interests are in Old and Middle English but she is interested and involved in 'the commonwealth of literature' and particularly in some leading contemporary poets and novelists.
