Research interests

My research comprises two core components – literacy and language acquisition.  I have assessed the reading accuracy and comprehension skills of children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) and Language Impairment, examining the extent to which child variables (such as oral language skill) and external factors (e.g. the home literacy environment) influence ability. I have also investigated whether children with ASD are able to use the written form to help them learn new words.  I am keen to further explore factors which influence learning, both in child and adult populations.  I am currently supervising an MSc project which is investigating how mode of learning influences English vocabulary acquisition for Chinese adolescents.

I lecture on 1st, 2nd and 3rd year undergraduate Psychology modules and supervise 3rd year research projects and dissertations.  I also supervise MSc projects.
