Research interests

▪Contemporary Theatre

▪Playwriting

▪Discourses on the real

▪Verbatim and documentary theatre

My current research addresses contemporary theatre’s current fascination with “the real”. I have presented my research at conferences nationally and internationally. My academic articles and book reviews have been published in Performance Research, Performing Ethos and Platform journals.

I am an active member of the Department and the wider academic and cultural community. In 2015 I was the Chair of the Interactions With The Real committee, organizing Royal Holloway’s third annual Practice-based PhD conference. I was the previous Books Editor for 'Platform', a refereed printed and electronic journal, run by Royal Holloway postgraduates. I have previously reviewed theatre for the online theatre magazine Exeunt and have reviewed books for the Times Higher magazine.

I serve on the Writers' Guild Executive Council and am co-chair of their regional London & South East committee.

I am also a playwright and my work has been performed across the UK. Most recently I wrote 'APPLAUSE', a commission from Arts Educational drama school to write one of the final public productions for their MA Actors. Nick Quinn at The Agency is responsible for my professional representation. For further details see: http://theagency.co.uk/the-clients/poppy-corbett/.
