Polly Hember is a final-year techne-funded PhD student at Royal Holloway University of London, supervised by Prof. Christopher Townsend and Prof. Tim Armstrong. Focusing on modernism and visual culture, her thesis explores the POOL group through the works of Oswell Blakeston, Robert Herring and Kenneth Macpherson.

Her research interests are in modernist studies, early twentieth century literature, affect studies, early cinema, queer theory and technology. She is a former postgraduate representative for the Brittish Assocation of Modernist Studies and former co-editor of The Modernist Review. She is a member of the Centre for the Study of Visual Cultures at Royal Holloway and is currently convening the Following the Affective Turn Projetct, which looks at the current state of affect studies by inviting conversation through a public lecture series and a PGR symposium.
