Polly Hember is a techne funded PhD student at Royal Holloway, University of London supervised by Prof. Christopher Townsend and Prof. Tim Armstrong. Focusing on modernism and visual culture, her thesis explores the POOL group through the works of Oswell Blakeston, Robert Herring and Kenneth Macpherson.

Her research interests are in modernist studies, early twentieth century literature, affect studies, early cinema, queer theory and technology. She was a a postgraduate representative for the Brittish Assocation of Modernist Studies and co-edited The Modernist Review from 2019-2021. She is currently co-organising the research networks Following the Affective Turn and Figuring out Feeling.
