Research interests

The main theme of my research is visual perception and the underlying neural mechanisms in the human brain. I study how early visual cortex and early visual processes are influenced by audition, imagery, emotion, the context and cognitive factors in general. I investigate these influences using visual psychophysics and neuroimaging methods such as fMRI and TMS. I also enjoy collaborating with philosophers of mind to develop theoretical accounts of the cognitive influence on visual perception. Further research interests include the organization of early "visual" cortex in the blind, multi-sensory perception, gender differences in vision, consciousness, attention, predictive coding and numerosity perception.

The methods I use:
fMRI, multi-variate pattern analysis, retinotopic mapping, TMS, psychophysics, eye tracking, continuous flash suppression, fear conditioning.
