Personal profile

Noam Leshem’s research and teaching focuses on urban politics and activism, combining approaches from critical political geography and cultural theory with everyday urban praxis of communities and individuals. His research focuses primarily on contemporary ‘spatial activism’ in Palestine and Israel, and explores the work of civil society and professional groups reshaping the physical landscape and symbolic meanings of contemporary cultural nationalism. Before joining the Department of Geography at Royal Holloway, Noam completed a PhD at the London Consortium on the transformation of depopulated Arab space in Tel Aviv’s periphery, which will be the basis of upcoming monograph titled “Tel Aviv East: Arab place, Jewish space and Israel's forgotten urban histories”. During his studies, Leshem was Wingate Political Science Scholar.
