Dr Niran Subramaniam

Personal profile

Dr Niran Subramaniam is Senior Lecturer in Accounting and Information Systems, Associate Dean (Education), Faculty of Management, Economics & Law at Royal Holloway – University of London, and Director of Postgraduate Programmes at the School of Management. He is also a College Advisor at the Green Templeton College, University of Oxford, where he was a Lecturer at the Said Business School.

Niran’s research interests lay at the nexus of Sociology, Technology and Accounting, and his areas of expertise include strategic management accounting, contemporary management control systems and the use of enterprise systems. He teaches postgraduate courses in Consulting and Enterprise Systems, and his current research focuses on digitally mediated human interactions and their theoretical and practical implications in contemporary organisational settings. He also teaches financial management, a second year undergraduate course.

Prior to joining academia, Niran held senior finance and information systems management roles in insurance, telecommunications, and higher education sectors for fifteen years. As Director of Management Information Systems for the University of British Columbia, he led enableIT, a $10m program over five years to transform the University’s Enterprise Systems.

As a Fellow Chartered Management Accountant (FCMA), and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA), Niran is engaged in research and consulting projects internationally. From 2018, he is appointed to the international committee of the Chartered Association of Business Schools (CABS), which acts as a think-tank contributing to the development of policy and research on matters concerning the international agenda within UK business schools. He is also a reviewer for European Journal of Information Systems (EJIS).
