Personal profile

Nathaniel’s PhD research focused on unconventional oil and gas reservoirs and in particular how fracture networks may develop within layered strata with varying mechanical and elastic properties. This has implications for both induced hydraulic fracturing operations, but also in understanding what fracture networks may exist at depth for fractured reservoirs. Nathaniel combined both experimental and numerical methods throughout his research, collecting data from the shale/limestone alternations along the Bristol Channel. Although the focus of his research is on hydrocarbon reservoirs, Nathaniel has a strong interest in geothermal energy, particularly in Enhanced Geothermal Systems (EGS).
