I have just completed a doctorate at Royal Holloway working on how the crusades and crusading has been perceived, used and repurposed in the last two centuries in Britain.

The title of my PhD thesis was 'The Rise and Fall of British Crusader Medievalism, c.1825-1945' and my research has encompassed nineteenth-century medievalism; crusading juvenile literature; Christian missionary agencies' use of crusading rhetoric and imagery; British crusader medievalism in both First and Second World Wars; the Most Noble Order of Crusaders; and many other uses of crusader medievalism.

My research interests include crusader medievalism and the ways in which the past is used for identity formation.
