Mrs Mary Mitchell

Personal profile

Mary Mitchell is a part-time PhD student in the Media Arts department, researching participatory video production with refugee communities and the politics of co-creation. Her research interests are in emerging media including interactive documentary, social media usage among refugee communities, and the power dynamics in collaborative production.

She completed an MSc in Forced Migration at the University of Oxford in 2008, and has since run communications projects for NGOs and government clients in contexts including South Asia, Central Asia and the Middle East. She specialises in building the capacity of grassroots organisations to communicate effectively online in the fields of community cohesion, human rights, and countering violent extremism.
