My research is primarily investigating the "Look But Fail To See" error associated with motorcycle accidents; whereby drivers often pull out from a junction into the flow of traffic and collide with a motorcycle, claiming not have seen it.
At this moment in time, my PhD is focusing on how individuals calculate the time to passage of a motorcycle in night-time conditions and as the ambient light level of the scene increases. This has involved collaborating with Professor John Wann and Dr Damian Poulter from Royal Holloway, University of London and Dr Shaun Helman from the Transport Research Laboratory.
Future directions include investigating the perceptual abilities of older and younger drivers in the calculation of time to passage.
