Maja Grundler

Maja is a Lecturer in Law at Royal Holloway University of London. She holds a PhD in Law from Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) and an MSc in Refugee and Forced Migration Studies from the University of Oxford.

Prior to coming to Royal Holloway, Maja was a postdoctoral researcher at Queen Mary, University of London, where she worked for the 'Protect Project', examining the role of the Global Compacts on Migration and Refugees in ensuring refugees and migrants’ rights.

Maja is also a research affiliate at the Refugee Law Initiative and co-chairs the Human Trafficking Research Network.

Maja’s research focuses on the intersection of refugee law and irregular migration, human trafficking and migrant smuggling. Her wider research interests include the scope and boundaries of the refugee definition, nationality discrimination in the context of migration, migrant agency, and vulnerability.

Maja teaches EU Law and Asylum and Immigration. She is a Fellow of the UK Higher Education Academy.
