Personal profile

MPhil student at Royal Holloway Geography supervised by Dr Celia Martin-Puertas and Dr Alice Milner.

PhD Title: Palaeo-evidence for policy: reconstructing decadal climate variability in Europe to inform climate policy decisions.

My research interests lie with using high-resolution terrestrial archives to reconstruct climate using Bayesian statistical models and transient climate simulations. I am particularly interested in emphasising the role of palaeoclimate evidence for understanding the decadal climate system and how this can help inform important policy decisions.

My PhD is part of the DECADAL group which is held at Royal Holloway Geography and other European universities and uses high resolution lake records and novel approaches to reconstructing climate through time. In addition, this research group uses a co-production approach with policy makers to ensure the knowledge produced by palaeoclimate reconstructions can aid societal needs.

Educational background

MPhil: Royal Holloway Geography (2021-present)

Palaeo-evidence for policy: reconstructing decadal climate variability in Europe to inform climate policy decisions.

MSc Quaternary Science: Royal Holloway Geography (2019-2020)

Assessing the sensitivity of Diss Mere, East Anglia to Meteorological Parameters

BSc Geography: Royal Holloway Geography (22016-2019)

A palaeoenvironmental reconstruction of mid-late Holocene events at Morden Bog, Dorset

Other work

Website Assistant for Discovering Antarctica (RGS & BAS)

Sought after to provide scientific knowledge to the updated Discovering Antarctica webiste. This role also involves ensuring that the content is fit for the target audience.

Website Assistant for AntarcticGlaciers.org (September 2020- Present)

I was responsible for creating the AntarcticGlaciers StoryMap Collection Series for KS3 students learning about Antarctica. These collections focussed on Antarctica’s icy features, its wildlife, climate change and Antarctica’s people.

Alongside the creation of these StoryMaps I have published a host of educational articles on glaciers, climate change, geomorphology and people and Antarctica.

Postgraduate Research Assistant in Lake Monitoring (January 2021 - September 2021)

Full-time employment at Royal Holloway University using lake monitoring techniques to understand the contemporary lake system of Diss Mere, East Anglia. Involved analysing the seasonal and annual sediment deposition, chemical lake properties and climatic implication. This was part of a wider Royal Society funded project.
