Personal profile

I submitted my PhD in October 2017 and successfully passed my viva in January 2018. I am currently working on a book for HarperCollins on the History of Bollywood Shakespeares and a special issue of the British Shakespeare Association journal Shakespeare.

I did my M.A. in Shakespeare from Royal Holloway in 2005-2006 after which I worked full time in India as an English language tutor and Examiner. Currently I am a full time research student at RHUL in the English Department and an for British Council.

Research interests

My primary work is on the influence of Shakespeare on Indian cinema in general and on the Hindi film industry in particular, especially since the 1980s. I am also engaged in research on film archives.

Other areas of influence include non-Anglophone Shakespeares, Shakespeare adaptations into indigenous folk forms in Asia and Applied Theatre, especially in relation to the similarity between adaptation processes across Asia.

I co-organised the Shakespeare and Bollywood Conference in 2014 and the Indian Shakespeares on Screen film festival and symposium in 2016 in collaboration with the BFI, Asia House, Queen Mary, University of London and Royal Holloway University of London, witht he support of the National Film Archives, Pune, India.

Teaching

I currently work as a part-time Lecturer at Royal Holloway International Study Centre teaching literature and language to foundation year students. I have been teaching English as a foreign language since 2002. I have also worked for RHUL, CeDAS as an English Language Tutor in 2013, 2014 and 2015 as well as an English Tutor in 2014.
