I received my PhD in English from RHUL in 2017, supervised by Dr Sophie Gilmartin and advised by Dr Tim Armstrong.  My thesis explored monstrosity and material culture in nineteenth-century English sea literature, including Shelley, Tennyson, Gaskell, and Ballantyne.

Before coming to Royal Holloway I received my BA from the University of California at San Diego and my MA from Mills College.

Research interests

In addition to my primary research in C19 and maritime studies, I am also interested in ecocriticism and environmental history/humanities, gender, and the visual arts.
