Dr Karl-Andrew Woltin

Personal profile

My interests are in social psychology, particularly social cognition and self-regulation.

As a general theme, I am interested in how motivational orientations and cognitive mindsets as well as feelings impact our thoughts, judgments and behaviours in social contexts. I have pursued this theme in the context of self-regulatory goal pursuit around deadlines (e.g., whether people focus on behaviours or thoughts when faced with deadlines), phenomena of interpersonal sensitivity and closeness (e.g., empathy, deciphering of communication intentions, egocentric projection), as well as cognitive fluency (e.g., how ease of autobiographic retrieval influences first impressions).
