Joseph is a PhD researcher within the Information Security Group at Royal Holloway, University of London and is performing multidisciplinary research into the purpose of cyber-security functions within commercial organisations, with a particular interest in how perceived purpose may differ between Boards of Directors and cyber-security leaders. He is interested in the broader social dimensions of cyber security and risk management and how they are used to influence society through power and control.

Joseph currently works as Chief Information Security Officer for Electrocomponents plc, having previously run cyber-security functions for a number of other organisations across multiple sectors. He has worked in security, IT and business roles for nearly 20 years, subsequent to his graduation in 1999 from the University of Manchester with a BSc (Hons) in Biochemistry and Applied Molecular Biology. He also holds CISM, CCISO and BCS qualifications.
