Jen graduated from Royal Holloway with a first-class degree in English Literature in 2013, receiving the Caroline Spurgeon Memorial Prize for excellence and promise in Shakespearean studies. She stayed on to complete the Shakespeare MA with a High Distinction in 2014, before embarking on research as an AHRC-funded doctoral student. Jen is also Research Co-ordinator at Shakespeare’s Globe, London.

Research interests

Jen’s research focuses on altered states of consciousness in early modern literature, science, and philosophy. Her doctoral thesis, 'Beside Themselves: Shakespeare’s Ecstatic Subjects', considers conceptions and representations of the ecstatic experience in the work of Shakespeare and his contemporaries, and was supported by the AHRC (TECHNE). Her ongoing research interests include issues of subjectivity, linguistic and semiotic theory, anatomy, and emotion.
