The subject for my doctoral thesis was the relationship between shame and anger. More specifically, I am investigating whether shame is common in people who are prone to feeling anger. My measures include questionnaires, in-depth interviews and experimental methods. The work has been successfully piloted on students and using experimental assessments we have detected a significant tendency to avoid shame in anger-prone individuals who have low self-reported shame.

I have previously done some work on student achievement and well-being, together with Bernice Andrews and John Wilding. I have also been working on a research project looking at delayed onset PTSD, funded by the Minsitry of Defence.
