Dr Shing was an undergraduate at the LSE, before completing his MSc and PhD at Royal Holloway. He has been a full-time member of staff at the Economics Department since 2007 and has been a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA) since 2022.

Dr Shing has teaching experience in core Economics modules, especially in modules related to Finance and intermediate undergraduate Mathematics for Economics. He has held numerous positions of responsibility, including Director of Undergraduate Studies, Senior Tutor, Student Experience Lead, Transition Tutor and the Deputy chair of the Departmental Assessment Board.

Dr Shing is regarded as a Champion of the Student Voice, he has won numerous college awards, including a School of Law and Social Sciences Excellence in Teaching and Student Support Award (2021), a You’re Valued award from the Student Union (2020) and a College Excellence Teaching Commendation (2021) for his work on using Teams to create a one-stop-shop for online student-staff meetings. In 2023, he won a College Excellent Teaching Prize for his work on aiding transition through the use of pre-arrival Group Chats.
